Southern India, is less known than the north but not less appealing. It is known for its amazonian climate and extraordinary tropical landscapes, its architecture is rich and historical.
The history of southern india is over four thousand years old. The area has seen the rise and the fall of multiple dynasties and empires, which have left us with numerous temples, palaces and museums.
Kerala, one of the states in southern India, is known as the most literate of the country. Its Government created an Archeology Department specialized in the rehabilitation and conservation of public buildings in the region. The Archeology Department, is made up of a Team of professional engineers and architects. The Team’s objective is to recover the splendor of all historical buildings in Kerala.
Kerala's Architecture is characterized by its Gopurams on its four sides. The Temples are mostly Hindu and if you go inside you often Find painted murals representing different episodes of the Majabhárata. The Sanctuaries and The Kuttambalam are carved in wood.
As time passes, the meteorological conditions—Especially the torrencial rains and moisture—Weaken the historical buildings. The Archeology Department is in charge of restoring the Structures, which are mostly made of wood. The team of engineers and architects, rehabilitate facades, roofs and more.
When Cristina finished her studies in Technical Architecture, the Spanish Government awarded her a Faro Scholarship to work in the Department of Archeology for the Kerala state.
She joined the maintenance and Restoration team playing a role in the following buildings:
Thampuram Temple, Koyikkal Palace, Padmanabhapuram Palace , Palacesand Palace, Pazhassi Raja Museum.
